The 2nd Biennial Conference of the African Correctional Services Association (ACSA) opened at Kampala Uganda with the Opening session chaired by the Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Eng. Hilary Onek. Also in attendance were the Chief Justice of Uganda, Justice Benjamin Odoki, The Host, Commissioner General of Prison of Uganda, Dr Johnson O.R Byabshaija, the ACSA Chairman and Commissioner of Zambian Prisons, Mr. Percy Chato.

Delegates from 25 Countries including Nigeria, Algeria, Botswana, Republic of Chad, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, South Sudan, Sudan, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Angola, Rwanda, Gambia, and Uganda are spending five days of discussion at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala-Uganda. Other delegates are members of civil society organizations, diplomatic corps, the UN agencies and the press.

The theme of the conference ‘Enhancing Community Responsive correctional Services Delivery in Africa’ had paper presentations during the plenary sessions. PRAWA is represented at the conference where she is putting up an exhibition on Prison Website Management. PRAWA will also organize a 2 day Special Africa Regional Workshop on Prison and Community Based Rehabilitation Programmes and Best Practices t the end of the conference holding on October 5 – 6, 2012 at the same venue.
