liberal bail conditions when the Jail Delivery train piloted by the Chief Justice of the Enugu State, Honorable Justice Innocent Umezurike stopped at the minimum security penitentiary penultimate Tuesday 25 March, 2013.

The Ministry of Justice, the Police, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, the Nigeria Bar Association and various NGOs like Isaac Blessings, Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization CAPIO, Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace CIDJAP and others actively participated in the exercise led by the Chief Judge of Enugu State and other Judges of the Enugu State judiciary. The inmates were represented by lawyers from the Jail Delivery Committee facilitated by PRAWA.

The Jail Delivery Committee is made up of volunteer lawyers from various NGOs and the Nigeria Bar Associations.
The Ministry of Justice team led the Director of Public Prosecution DPP Barrister Emelibe Esq was made up of Senior Legal Officers and other support staff, while the Controller of Prisons, Nigerian Prisons Service Enugu State Elder Chris Ntewo led the team of prison officers.

As early as 10:00AM, the Jail Delivery Committee has arrived sub-urban town of Orji in Orji River Local Government Area of Enugu State for the exercise. Justice Okereke Okereke, one of the Judges of Enugu State High Court addressed the Court on behalf of the Chief Judge to declare the exercise open.

A total of four Courts sat to determine the cases on the list as provided by the Nigerian Prisons. PRAWA provided post delivery counseling and funds to the ATPS who were granted bails by the courts. The Jail Delivery train moves to Nsukka at a date to be announced.
