Danish InstituteOn behalf of Prison Watch Sierra Leone in cooperation with Dignity – Danish Institute against Torture we present to you a completed version of the study titled Children and Juveniles in Detention – Study on compliance with International Standards in Sierra Leone.

The study examines the Sierra Leonean governments’ compliance with international human rights standards as well as national laws with respect to children and juveniles in detention, and sheds light on some of the challenges faced in the juvenile justice system. Prison Watch Sierra Leone issues a series of recommendations that can be utilized to improve the
juvenile justice system.

The study was launched in spring 2013 and it is the real hope of Prison Watch Sierra Leone that it can be a stepping stone to continue constructive dialogue with government and other key stakeholders working to promote and protect children in conflict with the law to seek sustainable solutions to identified problems and challenges.

We hope that you will find this study interesting and useful in your work.
