The International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Africa Chapter has been established. This took place during the course of Prisons Reform Intervention regional workshop in Africa on Prison Health and Management of Special Needs Offender which held on Monday June 10, 2013 at Holet Ngor Diarama, Dakar, Senegal with over 24 delegates from different countries in attendance.

The Executive Director of PRAWA, Dr. Uju Agomoh (Nigeria), was appointed President of the interim board of ICPA Africa. Mr. Ousmane Faye (Sénégal) was appointed the Vice President and Mr. Serge Demefack (Cameroon) the Secretary, Mr. Lloyd Chilundika was appointed Treasurer.

Mr. Ousmane Faye is Sénégal Prison Service Head of Legislation, Statics and Instruction Division. Mr. Serges Demefack area of expertise is policy analysis and law, while Mr. Lloyd Chilundika is the Chairman of the Zambian Parole Board.

The inauguration of ICPA Africa was attended by the International President of ICPA, Peter Van der Sande, ICPA international first Vice President, Chief Olusola Ogundipe, ICPA North America President Dianne Williams, ICPA North America board member, Dr. John Gannon, and Commissioner Meg Kaggawa – Special Rapporteur on prisons and centers of detention in Africa, of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR).”
