January 2014

We, at the Communications department recognize the significant milestone in the unfolding history of PRAWA and appreciate the magnificent recognition of PRAWA in the past 20 years. We are moved professionally and personally, by the hospitality of our Executive Director Dr. Uju Agomoh and thank all staff for their support over the years.

On behalf of PRAWA Communications department, I am deeply touched by the major and important role we played in the success of PRAWA.

As you all know, PRAWA is celebrating its 20th birthday this year; looking back we can see how the organization has grown from its tentative beginnings to a leading human right organization with comprehensive reforms and mission for a humane and secure society for the sake of global criminal justice system capacity building.

I am touched by the support demonstrated by the board, management and staff in strengthening the importance of PRAWA work. Though the organization may have not gotten to its Canaan land, but it has a huge impact. Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action is an achievement that has promoted safety and security in the African community. The organization has also had a real effect on the penal system growth of developing countries, and its proud to have played is part in creating a just, humane and effective criminal justice system in environmentally sensitive nations.

An important point deserves to be pointed out, PRAWA belongs to the world; not a Nigerian organization although we are located in Nigeria, but instead PRAWA belongs to all ACPHR and ICPA member states. This makes it essential that we work to achieve excellence in every aspect of our activities. Anything less would be betrayal of you.

At PRAWA, we have dared to dream big dreams. In just two decades, we have established an international reputation in both formal and informal sectors for access to justice, rehabilitation, and social development of prisoners, ex-prisoners, torture victims and youths at risk at the highest level.

The communication department thanks PRAWA board, management and staff for their hard work. We can now build on the recent accomplishments with new strategic directions to safeguard our future, to make sure that we can continue to offer our committed service to rehabilitation and welfare excellence and capacity building. We must work to make convincing arguments and establish strategies that can sustain long term projects of PRAWA. The communications department is looking forward to work with all staff to achieve this goal with your support during the years to come.

I would like to finish by thanking all of you for joining this celebration.

Thank you!
